Insights from Four Industry Leaders
Kenya has long been recognized for its breathtaking wildlife, vibrant culture, and world-renowned hospitality. Today, however, another story is unfolding—one that positions the country as a leading destination for international meetings, conferences, exhibitions, and business investment.
At the recently concluded CTW 11th Edition Expo at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), LeviaMICE had the opportunity to interview exhibitors, organizers, and business leaders from different sectors. Although each conversation came from a unique perspective, they all pointed to the same conclusion:
Business events are no longer just about exhibitions—they are catalysts for investment, innovation, networking, and destination development.

Why Exhibitions Matter More Than Ever
Trade exhibitions provide businesses with an opportunity to showcase products, launch innovations, discover new markets, and establish valuable relationships. Unlike digital meetings, exhibitions create face-to-face interactions that build trust and accelerate decision-making.
Kenya continues to strengthen its position as East Africa’s gateway for trade by attracting exhibitors and delegates from across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Events hosted at KICC demonstrate how business tourism contributes not only to commerce but also to hotels, restaurants, transport providers, tour operators, and local communities.
Connecting Global Businesses with Local Opportunities
During our conversation with Edwin Masivo, Country Director of Global Exhibitions Inc. (GEX), he explained that the company’s primary objective is simple:
Connect international businesses with Kenyan businesses.
From energy and construction to electric mobility, plastics, packaging, printing, automotive, and technology, exhibitions provide a platform where companies looking to expand into East Africa can meet local partners and distributors.
These connections often become long-term partnerships, investment opportunities, and commercial agreements that continue long after the exhibition has ended.
For businesses looking to enter new markets, there is no substitute for meeting potential partners in person.
Kenya’s Growing Reputation as a MICE Destination
We also spoke with Zahoor Ahmed, Vice President of MIE Group, one of the organizers behind the CTW Expo and several industry events including Megawatt Africa, Africa Technology Show, and Africa Build Show.
He emphasized why Nairobi continues to attract international conferences and exhibitions.
Located in the heart of the city’s business district, the Kenyatta International Convention Centre provides delegates with convenient access to government institutions, financial centres, hotels, restaurants, and transport infrastructure.
However, what truly differentiates Kenya is what happens outside the conference halls.
International visitors have the opportunity to experience:
- Kenyan cuisine
- Rich cultural heritage
- Music and arts
- Wildlife safaris
- National parks
- Luxury hospitality
- Natural landscapes
This combination of business and leisure—commonly known as bleisure travel—is becoming one of the fastest-growing trends in global business travel.

International Investors See Opportunity in Kenya
One of the most encouraging conversations came from Alisa, a manufacturer of customised sportswear with operations in China and Vietnam.
Her company attended the exhibition with the goal of meeting clients and exploring business opportunities.
After experiencing the Kenyan market firsthand, she shared that the company is looking to establish both an office and a manufacturing facility in Kenya.
That statement reflects growing international confidence in Kenya as an investment destination.
When overseas companies begin considering local operations, they contribute to:
- Employment creation
- Technology transfer
- Skills development
- Local manufacturing
- Supply chain growth
- Foreign direct investment
Exhibitions often become the starting point for these long-term investments.
The Real Value of Networking
While products and technology often receive the most attention during exhibitions, successful events are ultimately about people.
During our interview with Immaculate, representing the construction machinery, agricultural machinery, and e-mobility sectors, she explained that her biggest objective was to create new contacts and interact with professionals working within her industry.
This highlights one of the greatest returns on attending exhibitions.
A single introduction can become:
- A supplier relationship
- A strategic partnership
- A client
- An investor
- A distributor
- A mentor
- A future employer
Networking remains one of the most valuable outcomes of every business event.
The Rise of Bleisure Travel
Business travellers today expect more than conference rooms and exhibition halls.
They want memorable experiences before and after meetings.
This is where Kenya enjoys a significant competitive advantage.
Delegates can finish a conference in Nairobi and within hours find themselves:
- Watching the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara
- Exploring Amboseli beneath Mount Kilimanjaro
- Relaxing on the beaches of Diani or Zanzibar
- Visiting local communities and cultural attractions
- Experiencing luxury safari lodges
- Enjoying award-winning hospitality
For international businesses, these experiences strengthen relationships and create lasting impressions.
